The Tec Factory has landed at Rotterdamseweg 25, Netherlands, where an existing factory warehouse will be transform into a maker space. Here the foundation will stimulate the creative manufacturing industry in Delft.
The initiative of The Tec Factory stems from a lack of space in the Dreamhall of the Technical University Delft, in which ten student teams are working on their projects, such as the Nuna solar car. There was also a need for manufacturing facilities for start-up companies. The Maker Space, the machine park, is the heart of The Tec Factory. In addition, there is a Community Space, a meeting space for users, and a Rental Space, private workplaces for users. The plan has a more far-reaching perspective: Beta City. In this perspective, there is also room for HighTechCentreDelft (HTCDelft), an initiative from the MBO and the Bèta Factory, an initiative of The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
Architectural concept
The theme of voyage of discovery was used for the concept. The Tec Factory is thus divided into a number of phases. The user has no overview of these phases, but experiences the different phases by means of a guided route through the building. Along this route, the user will come into contact with all facets of The Tec Factory. Within this route are two special elements, the event space and the maker space. These are forming the foundational elements where different users will come together, creativity is stimulated and knowledge is shared. In this way the user gets a complete overview of what The Tec Factory is, is continuously surprised during his time by insights and stimulated to participate within The Tec Factory.
